This bakery is exceptionally good; they offer a wide variety of delicious desserts. The conchas are wonderful, the chilaquiles are fantastic, and the steak sandwich was excellent. All the condiments were perfect, and the tres leches coffee was very good.
The chilaquiles torta was flavorful and not spicy. They have a large variety of pastries but unfortunately by the time it was my turn almost all were gone. I waited one hour in the line and it is very busy. They only open on weekends from 8a to 12p. It would be great of They can expand their times and that might help with the congestion and line. I don't know if I will keep returning since it is a long wait but it is good to try it at least once.
This place is an actual hidden gem and I really don’t want to tell people how good this place is.. but this is one of the best bakeries in Chicago. Great baked goods, sandwiches, definitely try their danishes.
I’ve heard about this place MANY times but finally happened to be in the area when they were open so I stopped to check it out. It is DEFINITELY worth the hype! So much so that I went three times in two weekends! There are pros and cons that go with it so here goes: PROS: outstanding product! Despite the look of some of the pastries, they are not overly sweet and sugary. The selection has the traditional flavors (chocolate croissants, cinnamon rolls, etc.) and they’re great but this place shines with the unique items they offer. Mexican Street Corn croissants! Tres Leches croissants! Cajeta croissants! The Oaxacan taco bar! The CONS: VERY limited hours. They’re currently open on Saturday and Sunday from 8am until they sell out. POPULAR ITEMS GO FAST! Yes, there’s a line…sometimes very long. But despite some negative reviews I’ve never had anything but amazing interactions with the staff! I think too many complaints are from those that have never worked in food service. They are pleasant and helpful and never rush you. ADVICE: if you go early expect a line, even at opening. You’ll get the best selection. If you go later the line may be smaller but selection is sometimes very limited. Be patient, be flexible (I tried the regular chocolate cake just to get the deal on four items and was amazed at how delicious it was!) and be adventurous! When I go I feel like I’m part of a lucky group that gets to experience phenomenal baking artistry!
Saw this place on social media, and it looked delicious! But honestly, I am giving this place 4 stars for the food and the ambiance. I had a Gordita de mole con huevo and it was my favorite thing I had! I also had chilaquiles with bistec, which was also really good. However, the bread was a bit disappointing. I felt it was a bit dry. :/ I had a taste of 10 different pastries and my favorites were the house chocolate cake and the guava & cream croissant. I honestly don’t think the two hour wait was worth it. My sister did get there an hour before and was out within 30 minutes with her order — which I think it’s the only way I would go there again. Or maybe if they opened more days, so the line isn’t so long. I would say skip this place if you are not in line at least 30 minutes before opening.
I would say it’s not amazing like everyone says it is. It’s good but it’s a one and done for me. I had a quesadilla it was good and ordered a few croissants. The one with the chocolate chip cookie on top well I only ate the cookie on top. And then I had a tiramisu croissant, it was so so. I ate half. Service is mediocre. Glad I was able to try it, but not something I will run back to.
This place absolutely lives up to the hype — it was well worth waiting in line for nearly half an hour, and I even arrived before they opened. They’re only open on weekends from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and most items sell out quickly, so plan ahead. Considering the small size of the bakery, the variety they offer is incredible. I honestly haven’t seen this many options in such a compact space anywhere in Chicago. The pricing is also very reasonable, making the experience feel even more worthwhile. I tried the chorizo breakfast sandwich and the steak and egg sandwich, and both were outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The steak and egg sandwich was my personal favorite. I also sampled several pastries, including the Mexican hot chocolate roll, strawberry shortcake, and strawberry Danish. Everything was superb — it’s hard to go wrong with anything here. Despite the long line, service is efficient and moves quickly. Overall, an excellent bakery with fantastic food, great value, and an impressive selection. Definitely worth the visit.
